[Piscator]

For some reason, I don't often have the option of clicking a rating button on pictures I view. I will see that others have rated the photo, so I know the photographer is seeking ratings. An example would be Jim's recent hummingbird shot. I see others have rated it. I wanted to give it a 10, of course, but there was no option for me. Any idea what happens in these instances?

If your new here you won't have that option at first. Dennis or maybe a MOD will have to turn it on for you.

I thought that might be the case, but then why am I sometimes able to include a rating? Is there some sort of algorythm--newbies can rate only newbies, or some such?

You can always view photos (anyone can) but if you are registered you occasionally you have to sign in User Name and Password, almost like a reset or something. In the upper right hand corner it should say Welcome Piscator and when you last visited. If not, you are not logged in. Am I right, Mods?

that sounds like a plausible explanation, Norma...
please check to see if that is the case, also, when you upload, you have the option to not allow ratings and comments on your picture- that may have been done in some cases, but is a rarely used feature.

Every signed-in member can rate a photo. All members have the same ability to rate photos or upload up to five photos per day. My guess is that you weren't logged in. Give it another try and let me know if this is the solution, please.

Unfortunately, it didn't work. I logged out and logged back in, checked out Brickee's squirrel photo "Just checking things out." No rating option, although someone else had just rated it a moment before.

Not a huge deal, but I am scratching my head over it.
